These are some illustrations from Edith Opal's Story – a story that I wrote when I was asked to tell a story at the Screen Actor's Guild Bookpals Christmas party some years back. These actors adopt a classroom for a year and read to the kids and inspire a love of reading. They are at the heart of this story about a librarian who teaches a little girl that reading can help us to fly.

This background art was created for an animated trailer. I thought as a counterpoint to the adult themed comic elements, I would use Hanna-Barbera as an inspirational jump off point for the backgrounds. The sponge texture contrasts with the flat colored character designs.
